To begin with, the word 'Qigong' is created by combining two characters in Chinese. The first
character, 'Qi', literally air, represents a flowing material of energy that exists in everything and
permeates the universe. Related concept in English that approximates the rich connotations of the
chinese character Qi is 'bio-energy'. Through a method or practice, people can learn to interact and
utilize the universal energy that exists around, and within, them. This methodology is called 'Gong'.
The chinese character 'gong'represents the effort placed into Qi practice as well as the power gained
through such practice. In other words, Qigong literally means 'the meditation practice of Qi-energy'.
In America, during the last twenty-five years, people have become familiar with chinese practices that
are related to Qigong. For instance, 'Kung Fu' and 'Tai Chi' are recognized by many Westerners as
excellent exercises for improving an individaul's mental and physical dexterity, enhancing one's self-
displine, and for providing a release of tension and relaxation. What many Westerners do not realize
is that Qigong is the most basic and grounding concept behind all Kung Fu or Tai Chi systems. The
high level sucess of any martial-art activity or philosophy, like Kung or Tai Chi, ultimately depends
upon how well developed an individual in fundamental Qigong practice. More specifically, Qigong
practice is the mediative component of more physical Kung Fu and Tai Chi are accentuated. Since the
early 1980s, there has been , quite literally, an explosive development in the study and practice of
Qigong in mainland China. Today there are approximately two-hundred million people in China who
regularly practice Qigong. A few years ago, Qigong treatment has been officially recognized as a
standard medical technique in chinese hospitals. In addition, Qigong and human-body-science
program have now been inserted into curriculum of major universities in China.
Outline
What is Qigong?
Why Yan Xin Qigong (YXQ)?
Yan Xin (pronounced as yen-shin) Qigong (YXQ) is an advanced and anciently derived Chinese meditation method that has been refined and modernized by Dr. Yan Xin. Dr. Yan Xin, a physician and practitioner of Chinese and Western Medicine in China, is the highest level Qigong master in recent years and the first to actively try to introduce Qigong practice into Western culture. Dr. yan Xin is probably the first known Qigong master to break with the tradition of passing high-level meditation methods to a few highly-select individuals. Instead, Dr. Yan Xin is trying to make the method of Qigong available for scientific study and for popular education. Because of the intensity of the practice, traditional Chinese masters circulated the Qigong method secretly and have kept the practice of Qigong from mass utilization. Having reached the highest level of Qigong practice and inspired by the ethics grounding his medical background, Dr. Yan Xin has decided to make Qigong practice available for the peoples of the world. Among the handful of Qigong masters who are considered 'national treasures' of China, Dr. Yan Xin is regraded as the best. There are more than one-hundred-million YXQ practitioners in China today. One-half of the total number of Chinese who practice Qigong! Dr. Yan Xin's motives for sharing Qigong with the world are twofold. First, Dr. Yan Xin wants to promote the health and happiness of the human being. Second, Dr. Yan Xin wants to promote the scientific study of Qigong so that the nature of Qigong meditation may be made to appear less as a 'miraculous' or 'mythic' force and more as the biophysical force that it involves. Both of Dr. Yan Xin's interests are being served while he is working in the United States. Specifically, Dr. Yan Xin has been instigating major research with hight powered academic institutions in an effort to uncover the dimensions of Qigong. More importantly, however, Dr. Yan xin has been giving 'Qi-emitting' lectures around the world since the early 1980s. Qi-emitting lectures are an central part of Dr. Yan Xin's healing program. In his Qi-emitting lectures, Dr. Yan Xin both heals and educates his audience. Millions of people have already benefited from these lecture / workshops which are frequently held in locations throughout the world. The Qi-emitting teaching method is unlike any other meditation or teaching method. When Dr. Yan emits Qi during his lecture, vital life-force energy is cultivated and delivered and De (see below). Through Qi-emission, the audience experiences the physical effects of Qi directly from Dr. Yan Xin. Consequently, one develops as a practitioner of Qigong much more rapidly than if he or she practiced without the direct aid of Dr. Yan Xin's Qi-emitting lecture is usually equivalent to the student having years of solitary meditation practice. Literally, millions of people have received valuable Qi energy from Dr. Yan Xin in this manner, and most have had remarkable and noteworthy results in terms of alleviated pain and healed illness. The dramatic and positive effect of Dr. Yan Xin's Qi-emitting lecture and be contrasted with other meditation teaching techniques which provide cognitive knowledge about a particular practice, bat do not yield benefits to the practitioner without months or years of practice. Yan Xi Qigong produces almost instantaneous results. However, like anything else of value in the world, the positive results of Qigong practice or the Qi-emitting workshop must be maintained by dedicated practice and a modified lifestyle, a lifestyle which embraces the components of De, compassion, and respect.
To begin with, Yan Xin Qigong pratice is highly effective in improving one's physical health and mental well-being. YXQ has helped hundreds-of-thousands of people rapidly overcome even the most debilitation and terminal of illnessses. Dr. Yan Xin has successfully treated cases of heart disease, cancer, broken bones and even AIDS. Scientific studies which document the transformation of patients from critical to healthy and stable conditions have been published and are available (see bibliography). Roughly sixty-million people have attended Dr. Yan Xin's Qi-emitting lectures throughout China and the world, and hundreds-of-thousands of these people have been cured of their disease after attending one or more of these lectures. After experiencing as little as a single lecture by Dr. Yan Xin, many people have left as normal, vibrant, and healthy people even though they attended the lectures as sickly, crippled, and dependent on crutches or wheelchairs. Once again, many of these cases are well documented by medical authorities and the reader is referred to the bibliography. In short, one of the important qualities of Qi is its miraculous healing ability. This is only one of its many diverse attributes. In addition to the healthful benefits of Qigong practice, it must be pointed out that Yan Xin Qigong practice is an extremely safe method of meditation. As one might suspect, Qi is an extremely powerful force in the universe and it should be approached carefully. Most other, if not all, meditation methodes warn their practitioners at some point about the possible side-effects that can occur due to incorrect practice. YXQ, on the other hand, has no such undesirable side-effects. Practitioners may have a variety of personal reactions to Qigong practice. Some of these reactions include:temporary pain, spontaneous movement such as jumping, shaking, crying, laughing, shouting, or discomfort in some parts of the body. However, all these are normal reactions to Qigong practice and are the result of the Qi as it circulates through and cleanses the body. By following the ending procedure properly, and by keeping positive thoughts (and by practicing De in your life), no one should be worried about the side-effects of Qigong practice. Remember, while Qigong is an extremely powerfut force in the universe, it is a constructive force. As long as it is respected and not abused, Qigong practice will help us in a lifetime of health and tranquillity for its students and for their family. Another quality about YXQ practice is that it is not difficult. A person can practice at almost ant time and in any location. Practice for as little as five minutes or it can last for any longer period of time. Qigong can be practiced standing up, sitting in a chair, sitting on the floor, or even by lying on the ground. Qigong can even be practiced while walking down the street! In short, a person can practice YXQ any time he or she feels like doing so. Qigong can be practiced anywhere a person wants, provided that he or she feels safe and secure. The last point to cover in this brief introduction to YXQ is the most important. We have discussed what Qigong is and some of its more important qualities. Yan Xin Qigong has the ability to transform a person's life into high levels of happiness, human potential, and health. YXQ is an extremely powerful and safe method of strengthening one's spirit and balancing one's life. YXQ is a physical phenomena with the above mentioned physical traits. Yet the success of physical Qigong practice is determined by the Chinese concept of De. The closest English appreciation for De is 'virtue.' (the explanation of RDaS needs much more space than we can afford here, but suffice to say, at this point, that RDaS is a much broader, deeper and richer concept than virtue) Without doubt, the effects of Qigong practice can only be achieved and maintained through the principles of virtue and compassion. Consequently, when Dr. Yan Xin teaches Qigong practice much of the lecture is concerned with ethics and virtue. Dr. Yan Xin has made this point explicitly clear and nobody should underestimate its importance. The level of an individual's Qigong power is fundamentally dependent upon the level of one's RDaS. Contrary to how it may appear to the perspective of traditional western philosophy, the Qigong practitioner's focus on virtue is much a technical requirement and less a statement about social value. Virtuous and compassionate action comprise a tremendous force in the physical universe. Specifically, for the practitioners of YXQ, the distinction between practice and ethics is nonexistent. Practice is ethics. Qigong is virtue. Virtue is energy. Inner strength, peace, and happiness are derived from individual and societal action that is done in accordance with natural Qi fields, fields which saturate and permeate everything that exists. Virtue is found in identifying and positioning one's self into relationship with these fields. For example, as one of these fields exists between children and their parents, respect for one's parents is considered a primary Chinese virtue. The reader now may naturally have this question: Why is this so? Does De (or virtue) have any real physical significance? The best answer at this point is that it is simply a known fact, not any philosophy or religious theory, to high level Qigong practitioners who have been practicing for generations in the last few thousand years that one can not reach high in Qigong without having high De. Since advanced Qigong meditation involves an emphasis of pairing one's mind and heart (as opposed th the training of one's body), a practitioner of YXQ is obligated to have good psychological conditions in order to train and receive the skills of Qigong. Typically, that this involves is good intention, selflessness, and the desire to contribute to a practice that meets, but transcends individual needs to serve the interests of the larger human community. Since Qigong trains one's mind and body, the most remarkable effect from Qigong meditation is more than just the physical improvement of one's health. A person's personality can be fundamentally changed and improved. Diseased and disfunctional character traits are substantivally overcome. Practitioners of YXQ normally become less compulsive, more graceful, kinder and more compassionate to others and to animals. Such traits are exemplified by Dr. Yan Xin, himself. After years of lecturing and healing millions of people, Dr. Yan Xin has never benefited materially from his work. All the revenue that he generatates through his lectures and publications is channeled directly to relief organizations, to medical research, and to meet the costs of running the International Yan Xin Qigong Association (IYXQA).
As suggested in the above paragraphs, Yan Xin Qigong involves a close relationship with the physical sciences. In China today, there are dozens of high level Qigong practitioners who work, to various degree, with research institutions. However, not one of these practitioners have come close to what Dr. Yan Sin has accomplished both in China and in the United States in promoting the scientific study of Qigong. Dr. Yan Xing was the first person in China's history to cooperate with the best research institutes in China and America. To date, Dr. Yan Xin has conducted over two-hundred scientific sudies, many of which have been published in reputable academic journals. No other practitioner or master of Qigong have been able to repeat Dr. Yan Xin's experiments to any significant degree. Among Dr. Yan Xin's published Qigong experiments are:
Through experiments such as the above, medical authorities in the United States and the Western world are beginning to understand that it is possible for Dr. Yan Xin to heal people through Qi- emission and Qigong practice. Encouraged by the success of these experiments, Dr. Yan Xin has been teaching and lecturing in the United States for the last three years to build more support of Qigong study and practice. Dr. Yan Xin has also been conducting many new experiments with scientists from top research universities in the United States. Because of the prevalence of AIDS in the United States and the world, Dr. Yan Xin has made an active effort in AIDS treatment with encouraging results! In short, Dr. Yan Xin believes that in order for Qigong to be accepted by the modern world, it must pass the test of rigorous scientific study. Without such a test, Qigong practice runs into the danger of being dismissed as 'superstition' or as a 'miracle' power. Qigong is but only a physical force, like water, that has the power, such as water does, to meet the survival needs of all life, not just human life. This concept is difficult for some people to accept, and it is one of the primary reasons that have led Dr. Yan Xin to come to the United States, a country with the largest and most reputable scientific community in the world. For his efforts to reach Americans with Qigong practice, President Buch received Dr. Yan Xin on several occasions and praised him as the sage of our times. For his distinguished contributions to American society, the state government of California recognized Dr. Yan Xin as an Honorary Citizen of the California State.
The International Yan Xin Qigong Association (IYXQA), the only non-profit Qigong organization registered wit the U. S. government, was established in 1991. The goal of the organization is to promote the development of Yan Xin Qigong for the benefit and happiness of people all over the world, and for its scientific understanding. Since its formation, the IYXQA has grown to encompass over 100 chapters at universities around the United States (including Harvard, Yale, Illinois, Berkeley, Atanford, Columbia, UC San Diego, University of Connecticut, MIT, Wisconsin and Purdue) and has members in over 90 countries and is the largest Qigong organization in the world. A large number of Yan Xin Qigong references have been compiled, translated, and distributed in the form of audio and video tapes. In addition, there is a large library of printed material that is avaibale. A Qigong university is now ready to accept applications. Several YXQ health centers will open in the near future. Most members of the organization are doctoral students, postdoctoral fellows, and professors. The large number of academic members of the association will become the backbone for carrying out scientific study of Yan Xin Qigong. However, Qigong practice draws practitioners from all walks of life. All people are welcome into the organization. The only requirement for membership is personal sincerity and a desire to improve one's life and community through Qigong practice. There are no membership dues to belong to the IYXQA, but donations are accepted.(Please click here for more information about IYXQA).
We at the IYXQA hope that the above introduction has given the potential practitioner a brief, but clear, overview of Yan Xin Qigong. We sincerely believe that Yan Xin Qigong is the most productive exercise and meditation that a person can integrate into his or her life. Yan Xin Qigong can also be very useful for improving and individual's mental state and life-attitude. Members of the organization are volunteers from among those who have benefited immensely from Yan Xin Qigong meditation. Like many others, we had our own doubts, early on, as to the validity of claims make with regard to Qigong or its practice. We are, after all, academicians ourselves in the Western tradition. However, we soon realized that the proper attitude is to examine qhat we empirically know about Qigong research. In this short pamphlet, we have not had time to present the reader with all the evidence, for that we urge you read any number of Dr. Yan Xin's books and papers (a bibliography of Dr. Yan Xin's work is presented at the end of this pamphlet, and we are in the process of compiling more English materials). When you read this material, we are sure that you will agree that the evidences extremely poignant. Quite simply, Yan Xin Qigong is an effective tool for achieving longevity and health. The preactice of Yan Xin Qigong leads to personal happiness, good temper, and peace of mind. In the last two years, Dr. Yan Xin has thus far conducted seven advanced training workshops in the United Stated. Some of these workshops deal with many common health and fitness issues, including problems associated with losing weight, mental health, and drug and alcohol addition, some of them focus on teaching very advanced Qigong methods that have never been revealed to public. They are invaluable chances for interested people to receive valuable Qi-energy directly from Dr. Yan Xin. It is a strong sign of Dr. Yan Xin's success that the number of people attending these training workshops has been increasing steadily, with most people returning to subsequent workshops. We warmly encourage you, your friends, and your family to take advatage of such opportunities in the future to grow in inner-strength and health. Learn to practice Yan Xin Qigong!
